Joe Gispe was a gifted most sought-after player in the late 80s and early 90s. He was a great second rower who administered very cool and effective tables from both his shoulders. He started playing rugby league with the Brothers club in Banz , the Tigers club in Rabaul before playing for Air Nigini in Port Moresby, the Port Moresby Vioers and the Kumuls. He was a household name who was flown in from Rabaul to Port Moresby on game days to play for Air Niugini - most sought player - a rare feat.
