Your Say

Keith Bowen says: My father Benjamin John (Jack) Bowen (1915 - 2009) signed as a professional for Wigan RL in 1938 after playing in the Final Welsh Trial of that year. He played from 1938 and for some of the war years and, after service in the Forces, again after the War for Wigan. He finished his 10 year contract in 1948 with Wigan and was persuaded to play a further year 1948 to 1949 for Leigh RL by his friend (and coach at Leigh) Emlyn Jenkins.

During that final year 1948, he represented his country against France RL at St Helens ground, Swansea, this was his second International appearance having played for Wales against England at Central Park, Wigan in March 1945. (08/02/2011)

Glenn Sweeney says: Hi there,I believe Jack was the first landlord of the new Wellfield pub in the middle of the then new Beech Hill estate. Well the pub has recently gone through many changes and indeed was closed completely for a while.Well the good news is that new owners have taken over and are investing in the pub.The official re-opening is to be in August and the owners would like to trace any descendants of Jack to officiate at the opening ceremony. Any links or help in tracing any descendants would be wonderful. Many thanks in advance if you can help, send to Glenn Sweeney , e-mail. glennali@aol.com or glennboy57@hotmail.co.uk (28/07/2016)
