Biography

Charles Broomham aged 19 died from injuries received when making a tackle in a Reserve Grade match on 30th April 1938 at the SCG while playing on the wing for North Sydney against South Sydney.

While tackling Souths fullback John Cahill he fell to the ground complaining of a stomach injury he regained his feet and played on but then collapsed and was taken from the field and transported to St Vincent's Hospital, he was operated on but died on the operating table at 7:30pm that night.

The Coroner later ruled accidental death caused by a ruptured spleen.

He was the son of former Norths First Grade player Ernest Broomham and nephew of International Albert Broomham.
