Bill reached the Challange Cup Final in 1965 with Hunslet.
In 1966 he became a member of outstanding Great Britain pack.
In November 1967 he was transferred to Leeds at a cost of £10000.Direct running was his strength.
In He played 187 matches and scored 39 tries.
In 1974 he was transferred to Bradford Northern .Then moved to Hull and then on to Widnes.
He finished his career back at Hunslet were he was a coach.
