Gwyn was a Wigan player, joining Wigan in 1938 the same year as my father (Jack Bowen), Percy Moxey and Ted Ward, all Welshmen. He was the brother of the famous Welsh RU international Bleddyn Williams. During active service in the Forces in Tunisia Gwyn was shot through the head but miraculously survived, but naturally it ended his rugby career. Gwyn and Percy Moxey were friends, and sadly Percy was also a war victim, dying in a bomber which crashed on a night training flight in 1943.
