Qualification for this competition was carried out via round 5 of the 2022 Challenge Cup, the final round before the introduction of Super League teams. All round 5 winners qualified for the 1895 cup.
The intention was for any teams that won in round 6 of the Challenge Cup would automatically progress through to the Semi Final of the 1895 Cup. However, all 5 teams lost their round 6 Challenge Cup match. Subsequently, the draw for the teams that would have to qualify via a playoff was done via random selection.
