Biography

Pint-sized P’matta junior (at 5'5" or 1.68m, one of the smallest halfbacks in the game) played in the club's first grand final against Manly in 1976. Kolc gained selection in Australia's World Series team the following year. 1977 also saw another grand final appearance, as well as the historic replay against St George, but his battle with clubman Graeme Murray for the top halfback spot - and the emergence of Peter Sterling – further restricted his first grade career.

I worked with John at the Leagues Club as a teenager. I admired his work ethic and ability on the football field. He is a true Parramatta champion. Like Geoff Gerard he got Parramatta to the crest of premiership. I salute you! You cheeky bastard! Thanks for being an inspiration, a great workmate and a fantastic boss. Have a great life!

I've been talking about Parras bad start to 2012 season with other fans so we put together our own dream Parra teams. I was only young when John was our half back but I always have him as my pick for Parras half. Loved the way he played, always chased his footy cards and still have some autographed ones on the wall behind the bar. J Kolc - Dead Set Champion

Peter Sterling recently named John Kolc in his all time greatest Parra team - a well deserved accolade from a legend. John was a true Parra man through and through and, considering his stature, was one of the toughest players I ever saw.
