Biography

Burly Queensland forward played first grade for Brisbane Norths as a 17-year-old and won Brisbane's Rothmans' Medal in 1976. Brohman played for Queensland against Great Britain in 1977 but missed selection for interstate duty the following year. This provided the motivation to venture south to Sydney following an approach from Penrith. For five seasons Brohman added a much-needed touch of class to the Panthers' attack but a smashed jaw in the first State of Origin match of 1983 (courtesy of Les Boyd) ended his hopes for Test selection. Joining C’bury for two premiership-winning seasons, Brohman was a major force in the Bulldogs’ 6-4 win over P’matta in 1984. Lack of first grade opportunities saw him return to Penrith; a move that produced another appearance for Queensland in 1986, before he ended his career as a member of the club’s reserve grade premiership-winning team in 1987. Brohman later took up lower grade coaching with Brisbane (1988) and C’bury (1989) and was an adviser to coach Phil Gould at Penrith before pursuing a career in the rugby league media.

Had the pleasure to play with Daryl in the 1973 QLD high school team and followed his career with great interest- also billeted at his parents house - only regret is that he took me to meet Bob Bax once and I was offered a trial but decided to go to Brothers and broke my arm in the first minute of the first trial game - also went to the movies with the big fella on a rainy night - turned out to be the big flood in Brisbane - imagine Daryl in a VW beetle - bouncing off flooded drains haha
