Biography

Pint-sized halfback served a long apprenticeship under champion St George Test star Billy Smith in the early 1970s. Shulman broke his leg in 1973 and had to have a plate inserted and although this affected his pace, he finally cemented his first grade place after Smith’s demotion in 1977. Unfortunately, his career ended when he suffered kidney damage in the grand final draw with P’matta. The talented halfback watched his team-mates win the replay 22-0 from the reserve bench and reluctantly retired the following year. Shulman later coached lower grades at St George and Cronulla during the 1980s.

Weight for age a great player who should have played representative football.

Fantastic player. Played lower grades with Saints all through the 70s. I first saw him play & thought wow he's so small. Then quickly understood why he was playing first grade. It was shame he had to retire. Fond memories. :)
