Biography

Nambucca Heads centre came to Balmain as a 17-year-old in 1972. The nephew of former Australian Test lock George Smith, Ryan captained the Tigers during the 1970s and played for NSW in 1978. He signed with Newtown in 1979 but after two seasons with the Jets and a year at Wests, Ryan returned to lead the Tigers in one final season in 1982.
