Biography

The second eldest member of the famous Mortimer family was a fine winger in his own right. Quick off the mark and a capable finisher, Peter Mortimer was a centre in C’bury's grand final loss to St George in 1979 but was on the wing in the club’s three premiership successes (1980 & 1984-85). He achieved his highest rep honour in 1979 when chosen for NSW against Great Britain. Mortimer was the Bulldogs’ sole try-scorer in the 7-6 win over St George in the 1985 grand final but missed the following year's grand final loss to P’matta because of injury. He left the club in 1987 to see out his final season with Hull KR and after pursuing a career in marketing with the C’bury club, had a brief stint as Chief Executive with Cronulla in 1992. In 2004 he stood down from the C’bury’s Board of Directors in protest over the sacking of football manager Garry Hughes and the forced resignation of his brother, Chief Executive Steve Mortimer.

He played centre in the 1980 GF, not wing.
He was mainly a centre in his early days, and converted to wing over the years
