Biography

St George junior left the star-studded club in the early 1960s for the chance to play first grade with C’bury. After playing for NSW in 1966, Greaves was chosen in the final two Tests against Great Britain. The following year, C’bury knocked the Dragons out of the final and after playing in the grand final loss to Souths Greaves was selected to tour with the Kangaroos. He played 14 matches on tour, including two Tests against Great Britain and another two against France, and Test partner Reg Gasnier later rated him one of the best centres with whom he had ever played. After missing the 1969 season, Greaves made a great comeback from knee injury to captain C’bury into the 1970 semi-finals. He departed the club in 1972 for the opportunity to captain-coach Campbelltown and represented Country Firsts the following year - partnering a young player named Mick Cronin in the centres.

I remember him as a very good player. I admired his size, speed and ability to step. He and John McDonald from Toowoomba were my favourite centres from that era. They Really played well and came into their own in the 67 Kangaroo team.

A fast and strong Dragons centre but had too many centres rated above him in the early 60’s. Still was sad to see him leave our great club.
