Biography

Wigan fullback (originally from St Helens) had a marked impact in the centres with minor premiers Canterbury during the 1993 season. Connolly was both classy in attack and tough in defence and was a settling influence in the young Bulldog backline. He returned to Australia in 1994 as a member of the champion Wigan side that defeated Brisbane in the World Club Championship at Lang Park. At the end of the year, Connolly played in each of the three Tests against the Kangaroos, starring in England’s 8-4 win in the First Test at Wembley Stadium. Connolly was a regular fixture in Great Britain teams during the 1990s he moved to Leeds in 2003 and was awarded the Lance Todd trophy as man-of-the-match in the 2003 Challenge Cup final against Bradford.
