Don Doak was a sargent at Surry Hills Police Station in Bourke Street . He became good friends with my parents who lived down the road. He came to the house a number of times for 'spaghetti nights'. He would often sleep in the spare bedroom if he had a late finish- early start at work. I remember going into the spare room one Saturday morning and seeing the North Sydney No. 10 jersey (red with black shoulder pads) hanging on the back of the door. Obviously, he was doing the morning shift at Surry Hills before going to the Cricket Ground in the afternoon. He spoke often about Billy Wilson who was playing with Norths at that stage. I remember him talking very enthusiastically about meeting Frank Hyde. I think Frank's son was playing for North's at the time ? My father was very distressed when he heard he'd been killed.
