Biography

Former Brisbane halfback (Logan Brothers) joined the Storm in 2002 and quickly found success when he switched to the hooker role. Smith was rushed into the Queensland State of Origin team in 2003 after injuries to PJ Marsh and Mick Crocker in the first two matches of the series. The following year he was the Maroons’ No.1 choice as hooker and even if his goal-kicking let him down during the series, his dummy-half work and great defence around the rucks was a highlight of a series dominated by NSW. At club level Smith was a capable back-up goal-kicker to Matt Orford and took over that role following Orford’s departure from the club in 2006. That year Smith played an important role in Queensland’s State of Origin success, won the ‘Dally M’ Player of the Year award and led the Storm into the grand final against Brisbane. Despite Melbourne’s loss to the Broncos Smith finished a marvellous season when he was selected for Australia and played in all five Tests of the triumphant Tri-Nations series.

Future Immortal, when he retires he will have played more minutes of the game then anyone else in history. And st Hooker which is astounding with the added extras of both goal kicking and captaining the at Club,State,National level. The most football educated player to ever lace a boot.

As a Queensland supporter I hope Cameron plays on for another two years which should give him ample time to eclipse the current number 1 spot for most points scored in NRL. I love it how many people hate Cameron (because he is a Queenslander and brilliant player) only to love him when he plays for his country. Keep the Cameron show rolling for a bit longer please.

His standards and behavior with respect to his sport off and on the field is in my opinion equal to the anybody else. As a hooker he is without doubt the best I have seen in my 50 years of watching the game. Good luck to him as he has earned every accolade he gets.

Cameron is classy but I think Jt and a few other players (Andrew Johns ) are better than them as Cameron has always been in a stronger side

Great vision as a player, would have been interesting if he had stayed as a half back, the heavy defence in the middle does not seem to have slowed him down at all !

  • Andrew

Without doubt the most complete League player of all time, its not just what he does on the ball but when he does it. No effort is wasted, he will stroll into the play if that is what is needed.
A true heads up player, makes things happen. Guides the team around the park, imbuing with that sense of calm that he has in the most crucial of moments.

Hated the maroons and storms. As he played/ plays for both the teams, I have always dreaded him as a player. But his playing ability, leadership skills on field and his hard work ethic cannot be doubted to anyone. Arguably the greatest man to have ever played the game. Congrats on getting to 400.

Durable, reliable and high quality player with a great brain for the game. But GOAT? Not by a long way. Durability is not the defining quality of a GOAT.
