Biography
Norths halfback toured with the 1937-38 Kangaroos, playing in 7 minor matches in England and France. The 21-year-old, a craftsman-like goal-kicker, was clearly being groomed for future Test representation but the advent of World War II put an end to his aspirations. Thompson represented NSW during 1938-40 - partnering Norths’ team-mate Rex Harrison in six consecutive matches for NSW - which is still a record for a Sydney club. Thompson later served with distinction in New Guinea during the war. He passed away in 2001, aged 84.
