Biography
RU international five-eighth (9 Tests) assumed Phil Hawthorne's role in the Wallaby side after the latter had defected to rugby league. Ballesty's hidden talent as a goal-kicker emerged on the 1969 tour of South Africa but this skill was rarely utilised after joining former team-mates John Brass and Alan Cardy at Easts. Strictly a back-up goal-kicker to Test fullback Allan McKean and Brass, Ballesty was a try-scorer in the grand final loss to Manly in 1972 and was named RLW's Player of the Year. Ballesty joined former Easts coach Don Furner in Queanbeyan in 1974 and captained NSW Country in 1976. He spent two years as Secretary-Manager of Eastwood Rugby Club before pursuing a management career with C’bury Leagues Club.
- ALAN WHITICKER
Additional Notes
Played in 9 Rugby Union tests for the Wallabies between 1968 and 1969.
