I went to primary school with Tony, we were in the same class for a while and played for Mount Wellington with them when I was just 7, I always wondered what happened to them. I left New Zealand for Australia.
Tony was always an inspiration, an amazingly strong player who could easily run through the field like we were nothing. I cant tell you how many times I was stunned and amazed by Tony, and spent most of my game trying to keep up, or just throwing the ball to him for the try. Speaking of Stunned, my teeth are still all messed up from the time he rolled over the team and I got to be the lucky last guy that got his knee in my face and my teeth smashed in during practice, lol, one of the best days of my life. Lol the coach was so pissed at the team that he made everyone run laps while they pulled my teeth out of my lip. Damn he was fast too, you just couldnt catch him, nobody could back then, not even Kevin. He lived on the corner of Laybourne and Mansfield in Glenn Innes, I remember us all having a birthday party there and his cousin gave the most spectacular grace, with the simple word.. "Grace", heheh. Tony was kind of quiet, in a league of his own. It would be great to still know them, I think about them often. I miss rugby too, it was the greatest game and the greatest fun. Good on you Tony and Kev, congrats on all your successes.
