Biography
Underrated second-row forward was unlucky to miss out on the 1990 Kangaroo Tour after playing a major part in Canberra's premiership successes in 1989-90. Originally from Ipswich, Coyne played provincial league in France before shifting to Canberra from Wynnum-Manly in 1986. He played in the Raiders' grand final loss to Manly in 1987 and broke into State of Origin football as a reserve forward in 1989. Coyne's four-try effort against Manly in the 1991 minor semi-final won him a spot on the Australian tour of Papua New Guinea following his club's loss to Penrith in the grand final. He made four appearances on tour, including two Tests from the interchange bench, but retired at the end of the 1992 season.

An underrated player in attack & defence. A player that teammates loved to play with. I’m glad he watched his diet during his playing days & didn’t eat the amount of McHappy meals he sells these days….

What a treat it was to see him score 4 in the 1991 semifinal against the Sea Eagles.
