Your Say

Bill Davidson says: Brindle ('Bryn') Knowelden was born on 27 June 1919 in Barrow in Furness, Lancashire. He signed for Barrow from a local works team on 1 October 1943 and made his debut on 4 September 1943 against Halifax at home. His last appearance for Barrow was on 18 October 1947 against Wigan at home. He was then transferred to Warrington for a fee of £1,400 on 11 December 1947. He remained at Warrington until 1952 when he moved to Hull Kingston Rovers as player-coach until his retirement from the game in 1955. A keen and competent cricketer too, he played for Vickers in the North Lancashire League and won the Sir Learie Constantine award for the highest batting average in the League. After a spell with Warrington when he appeared in two Championship sides, captaining the side in a close encounter with Workington Town in 1951, he also successfully appeared in the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley in the final tie against Widnes when Warrington triumphed 19-0 and Bryn was one of the try scorers.
