    Mel Cooke is one of the NZ Legends of League, he was a terrific, workaholic loose forward who represented the Kiwis from Canterbury (NZ). He was the only Cantabrian named in the 2007 Team of the Century (the team, and historically NZRL, has been dominated by Auckland).

    Cooke captain-coached Monaro (NSW) after retiring from international rugby league.

    Mel Cooke died yesterday aged 79 year after a long illness. He will be missed.
