Biography

The eldest of three Ellis brothers to play for Newtown during the 1920s and 1930s was graded with the club in 1924. A clever five-eighth, Keith Ellis played for NSW in all five interstate matches in 1926 before work commitments with the railways took him to Queanbeyan and Junee. Returning to Newtown in 1932 he captained the Blue Bags to a win over St George in the premiership final the following year. A long-serving committeeman with the club, Ellis coached Newtown’s reserve grade to premierships in 1947-48.
