Ron Roberts

St George winger cemented his place in the history of the code when he dived over to score the winning try in the Third Test against Great Britain in 1950. (In the 1980s, that try was rated the single greatest moment in the code's history by a RLW poll). The 5-2 victory gave Australia the Ashes for the first time since 1920 and if that one moment dwarfed the remainder of the strapping winger's career, it was certainly a great way to be remembered. Roberts played for NSW in 1949 before making his Test debut on the tour of NZ. That year, he scored two tries in St George's 19-12 grand final win over Souths, as well as finishing the season's leading try-scorer in 1949-50.
