Biography

Mobile, Queensland-born forward actually represented NSW U'17s while at high school in Tenterfield before coming to Norths in 1989. Moore was first selected in Queensland's State of Origin side in 1992 and was the sole try-scorer in the Maroons' 5-4 win at Lang Park in the second match of the series. He was a mainstay of the Queensland side for three seasons and became part of State of Origin folklore by calling out ‘Queenslander! Queenslander!’ to motivate an underdog Maroons team in 1995. Against all expectations, Queensland won the series without its star Super League players and while Moore was initially overlooked for Test duty against NZ, he won a place in Australia’s World Cup squad at the end of the year. He made one Test appearance in the competition, against Sth Africa, before playing Tests against Fiji (1996) and Rest of the World (1997) in consecutive years. Moore's value for Norths can be measured by the fact that the club failed to fire in the 1994 final against Canberra after he was forced to leave the field with concussion. He continued to play tirelessly for his club in subsequent semi-final campaigns but his rep career ended when he was left out of the Queensland team for the 1998 series. At the end of 1999, Moore failed to secure a contract with the merged N’Eagles club and reluctantly retired.

I remember Billie at home jumping off his mums dining table. Adventorous young lad! He has come a long way since Wallangarra. He is a great spokesperson of league on the Sunshine Coast.

This young man was born in Tenterfield and went to school in Stanthorpe. He first pulled on a maroon jersey when he was four just had to play with his older cousin Peter and also a group of kids which included my son Brad. He also coached our netball team which included my daughter Vic, who was a schoolmate. His mum Joan was heavily involved in Queensland Netball and would have been so proud of his achieveiments both on and off the field as we all are.

Was a very good whole haerted footballer but on NRL 360 they called him a legend of the game not so sure about that
Will always be remembered as Queerslander ????????

  • John

An absolute legend who probably played the most finals matches without a chance at the GF. Great presence now on NRL 360. Especially with Mark Carroll or Steve Roach.

Would be great to see an 18th team be the North Sydey Bears in the next couple of years. I'm sure he would be still campaigning.
