Biography

Flying Kemspey winger looked set for a great career with the merged St George I’warra club (where he remains a record holder in scoring 22 individual points in the match against the Warriors on debut) but the Dragons seemed to lose faith in his ability to come back from injury in 2003. Moving to premiers Penrith, Roberts scored 23 tries in 23 matches – some of them brilliant individual efforts – and represented Country Origin. The season’s leading try-scorer as a winger, he also scored a club record equalling 28 points (2t, 10g) and landed an equal club record 10 goals in the 72-12 thrashing of Manly. Although not as effective as a stand-in halfback or as defensively sound when chosen as a stop-gap fullback, Roberts signed a premium four-year deal to play with the Roosters from 2005 after backing himself and resurrecting his career on a minimum one-year deal with the Panthers.
