Biography

Former Wynnum-Manly forward’s old-fashioned style of play would not have been out of place in the bustling 1970s. Greenhill came to Cronulla after he wrote to coach Arthur Beetson asking for a trial and was promptly graded in 1994. Selected as a reserve in the 1996 State of Origin series he was sent off for his tackle on Paul Harragon in the second match and was suspended for four weeks. The following year, he played in one Super League Tri-Series match for Queensland and was used as a reserve in the return Trans-Tasman Test match in September. Chosen for Super League Australia’s tour of Great Britain, Greenhill was gain used from the bench in the opening two Tests of the series. In the second match of the NRL season in 1998, Greenhill fractured two vertebrae in his neck and was thought to have played his last game. To his credit, he worked hard to overcome his injury and after securing a contract with Penrith in 1999, played in all three matches in Queensland’s State of Origin series win. His final representative match was as a reserve in the Maroons’ disastrous 56-16 thrashing by NSW. With that door of his career firmly closed, Greenhill left Penrith at the end of 2001 to play with Hull in England before moving to Castleford after two seasons.
