Biography
Elder brother of Kurt Sorensen (and the nephew of noted Kiwi Test starts Bill and Dave Sorensen) set a club record number of first grade games with Cronulla. A first grader at age 17 in the Auckland competition, Dane Sorensen made his debut for NZ in the 1975 World Cup competition. He signed with the Sharks after playing against a Combined Sydney team on their NZ tour in 1976. Sorensen was joined by brother Kurt in 1979 after suspension cost him a place in the club's grand final teams in 1978. In the early 1980s he was at the centre of an international storm when Cronulla refused to release the two brothers to play for NZ. After an unsuccessful year at Easts in 1984, Dane Sorenson returned to the Sharks and gave great service to the club. An 18 Test veteran between 1975 and 1985, the tough prop surpassed Greg Pierce's club record for first grade games in 1989.
