Biography

Toowoomba pivot played for Queensland in 1955 before gaining Test selection in two matches against France. Graham Laird, whose younger brother Ray played for Australia against Great Britain in 1970, came to P’matta in 1956 where he represented NSW. After a season with Narromine he took on a captain-coach position in his home town of Mackay in 1958. In April that year he lost his life in a farming accident when he was crushed by a tractor that overturned as he was driving it.
