Biography

St George hooker, the son of Australian Test captain Herb Gilbert, represented NSW in 1939-41. In 1941 Gilbert was a member of the St George team that captured the club’s first premiership title but the advent of World War II affected his rep career. In 1946 he returned to the State team and played against England in the first post-war Lions tour.
