Biography

P’matta junior played in 14 RU Tests between 1986-88, proving a versatile and accomplished backline player at winger, centre and predominantly fullback. Leeds switched codes to play for P’matta in 1989 but did not fire when the club attempted to play him at centre and five-eighth. Moving to Penrith, Leeds grew in confidence at fullback - safe, reliable and a match-winner with the boot (as shown with his 50m goal after full-time to beat Balmain at Penrith Stadium in 1992). Signing with Wests, Leeds was one of the form fullbacks in 1993 and rejected offers from rival clubs to stay with the battling Magpies under new coach Tom Raudonikis in 1995. After six seasons in which he had to do a lot of defending in struggling Wests teams Leeds announced his retirement in early 1999.
