    I lived in Ingham 1962 to 1967. Ray was a fixture in the Herbert River rep side and he also starred in the famous 1966 N.Q rep side victory over the Poms. Like a lot of wingers of that period, he was "built like a rake", but he had a good step and plenty of pace. I remember his try in that Poms game in 1966 when he was on the end of a 20 m pass from Brian Bevan, the NQ 5/8.

    My recollection is Ray was not a big drinker. In 1965 when Herbert River won the Foley Shield, and the team walked around the town for a week from pub to pub getting free drinks, Ray was the sober one keeping an eye on his mates
