Andy Sykes was a prop forward starting his career with Leeds RL in 1981 after signing from Leeds based amateur club Milford, In 1982 he was selected for Great Britain Colts on a 6 week tour to Aus/NZ playing in all the test matches, as well as playing against France. He was also on the Leeds bench and played a bit part against the Australian 1982 Invincibles. In 1983 Andy was selected to play in the JPS trophy final against Wigan playing 2nd row which Leeds narrowly lost. He spent 4 seasons with Leeds but was transferd to Barrow in 1985 following the surge off Australian big name players arriving at Leeds. Andy had 2 seasons with Barrow then transferd to Hunslet in 1987, in which he played a big part in Hunslets promotion from Div 2 to Div 1. Andy retired from rugby league in 1988 having received a 10 match ban. The interest must have gone !
    (Summary)
Andy was a big powerful aggressive strong running prop forward who never shied away from a tackle and was usually the first one in when punch ups occurred . Sometimes he was overly aggresive which led to him being sent off on numerous occasions and being suspended.Maybe his lack off discipline hindered him from being a top prop forward for club and country.
