Biography

Gerringong forward played for Southern Division against Great Britain in 1962 before representing Country and NSW the following year. Paul Quinn became the first international from the sleepy South Coast town when he was selected as a reserve against NZ and South Africa (Mick Cronin and Rod Wishart have since followed in his footsteps). Quinn toured with the 1963-64 Kangaroos and played in the Second Test ‘Swinton Massacre which secured the Ashes for the first time in England for 52 years. The country prop appeared in three more Tests on tour before signing with Newtown on his return. Quinn represented Australia against France (1964) and in two Tests on the tour of NZ (1965). During his time as Newtown captain during the late 1960s, the club failed to make an impression on the premiership and Quinn returned to the South Coast. He captained Country while playing for Nowra in 1969, and later pursued a career as a sports journalist in Canberra.
