Biography

Souths Brisbane forward played for Queensland in 1961 before making his Test debut for Australia in the Second Test against Great Britain in 1962. A physical, well-built second rower, Veivers played in the Third Test of the series but after missing out on the 1963-64 Kangaroo Tour he tried to join Sydney club Manly. The QRL originally blocked the move but finally gave him a clearance for the 1965 season. He represented NSW that year and toured NZ with the Australian squad. Veivers played in two Tests against the Kiwis that year and two Tests against Great Britain in 1966 but he was again overlooked for a Kangaroo Tour the following year. A knee injury ruled him out of Manly's 1968 grand final loss and he later returned to Queensland. The cousin of Queensland and Australian Test forward Greg Veivers (another cousin was 1960s Test cricketer Tom Veivers) Mick Veivers later served as a National Party MP in Queensland State Parliament.
