Biography

Hardened lock's League career started in Wollongong before he earned a contract with Norths in 1952. A raw-boned teenager when he came to Sydney in 1952 Diversi established a reputation as a feared defender and his bone-crushing tackling became a feature of his game. Diversi's natural strength and pace complemented his cover defence and he was a tireless worker at the base of the scrum. He made his NSW debut in his debut year and, two years later, was called into Australia's Third Test team that secured the Ashes. Diversi also played in the inaugural World Cup competition in France that year but his only other Test appearance was against France in 1955. He left Norths to captain-coach Gundagai in 1956 but returned to play for Manly for five seasons - the highlight being his grand final appearance against St George in 1959. Diversi, who is the uncle of Australian Test lock Ray Price, retired in 1965 after two seasons with Kurri Kurri in the Newcastle competition.
