Biography

Gritty prop, originally from Orange, shifted to C’bury in 1994 and strode into the club's grand final team with a series of fine displays. Britt went one better the following year when he was in the team that defeated Manly in the grand final, 17-4. While his efforts during the next two seasons were overshadowed by the Super League split, Britt’s consistency up front and leadership as captain of the Bulldogs in their charge into the 1998 grand final propelled him into the final two Tests of the Trans Tasman series. Despite never having played for NSW during his career, Britt was called into the Australian Test team for the Tri-series against NZ and Great Britain in October 1999. Britt continued to lead the Bulldogs in his own laconic style and was called into Australia’s World Cup squad in 2000. His final Test appearance was from the bench in the Kangaroos’ 82-0 thrashing of Papua New Guinea, a warm-up for the World Cup in which Britt made three appearances as an interchange player. At the end of the 2001 season, in which he was named the club’s Player of the Year, he joined St Helens in the English Super League competition. Britt announced his retirement as a player after suffering a head injury in August 2003.

The best thing to come from Orange since the Mitchell Hwy. One of the best prop forwards never to play in a State of Origin Series
