Simons is the brother of North Sydney and Canberra prop Jeff Simons who played for Canberra in their first game in the competition in 1982. Andrew Simons was also North Sydney's Young Lion in a promotion of a young up and coming player by the New South Wales Rugby League and Channel 7 in 1982.
