Match Notes

According to reports in Sydney's Sun newspaper, there were about 15,000 spectators present by the time this game kicked off. The Sunday Times also reported a crowd of 15,000, with 11,800 paying for admission. The Australian Star newspaper suggested the crowd was 10,000.

In the second half, shortly before Arthur Kelly's consolation try with the score at 18-7, one of the NZ forwards threw the ball at referee Ted Hooper and it hit him in the head. There was no action taken by the referee.

The Australian Star newspaper's report states that the last NZ try was scored in the corner by halfback Richard Wynyard. However, other newspapers suggest that Wynyard ran the ball from a scrum play to the blind side, giving the ball onto Arthur Kelly, who bumped off the NSW fullback in the act of scoring the try.
