Biography

Stocky but versatile David Trewhella came to Easts from Redcliffe in 1986. A former halfback who made a home in the forward pack as a lock, second rower and lastly as hooker, he proved to be a tackling machine with the Roosters. Although he had played most of his senior football in Queensland, Trewhella was ruled eligible to play in NSW's State of Origin side in 1988 because he had first played in Newcastle as a teenager. Selected as a reserve in 1988 he was called into the NSW team for the third match in 1989 following injuries to regular hookers Mario Fenech and Ben Elias. Trewhella's try-scoring performance in a losing NSW team booked his place on Australia's tour of NZ, although he did not play in a Test.
