Biography

Former Brisbane lock played against his old club in Cronulla’s loss in the Super League grand final in 1997’s Telstra Cup competition as a stop-gap hooker. McKenna, who also played for Sheffield Eagles in 1993-94 and the London Broncos in 1995-96, later shifted to the centres and was a try-scorer from the interchange bench in his Test debut - the 52-0 thrashing of NZ in the 2000 ANZac Test. McKenna’s great form in Queensland’s 2002 State of Origin campaign saw him selected for Australia in the centres for the one-off Test against Great Britain. McKenna was a try-scorer in Australia’s record 64-10 win over Great Britain in July but moved to England for a third time to play for Leeds at the end of 2002. He was a try-scorer for Leeds in the 2003 Challenge Cup and won the English Super League grand final with the club the following year. In February 2005 he was a member of the Leeds team that defeated the Bulldogs in the World Club Challenge.
