Biography

Son of former Wests and Easts player Mick Alchin, and an Australian Schoolboy rep (1983-84), the Newcastle junior was graded as a halfback with C’bury in 1985. After finding it hard to displace champion halves Terry Lamb and Steve Mortimer, Alchin had a great game at fullback in the club’s 1988 grand final win but moved to St George in an effort to cement a first grade halfback position. The Dragons cut his contract in 1991 when he suffered a serious knee injury and he made a tentative mid-year recovery with Wests the following year. Alchin switched to hooker before intermittently returning to the halfback role.
