Biography

G’Coast centre/lock set two records with the now defunct club – most points in a match (20pts in 1994) and most points in a season (124pts in 1994) - before moving to St George where he was used as a stopgap hooker following an injury to Nathan Brown. Bartrim was chosen for Queensland in the divisive 1995 season when Super League players were not considered, and his great play around the rucks and consistent goal-kicking in the Maroons’ shock 3-0 series win gained him Test selection for the First Test against NZ. While Bartrim missed the final Test of the series, he was chosen in Australia’s Centenary World Cup squad. Bartrim’s form held firm during St George’s charge into the 1996 grand final and he again played for Australia against Papua New Guinea. An aggressive, spoiling style of player who on his day was a capable match-winner with the boot, Bartrim suffered a further grand final loss with the Dragons (1999) before leaving the club at the end of 2001 to play for Castleford in England.
