Biography

Newcastle halfback, switched to fullback by coach David Waite, came to the attention of national selectors with a series of confident displays during the 1992 season. Godden's great form in the semi-finals earned his place in Australia's World Cup squad although he ultimately missed out on selection in the team that won the Final. The ensuing seasons proved disappointing with Godden failing to represent at any level after being shuffled along the Newcastle backline. At pivot in early 1995, he showed something like the form that earned him an Australian jersey but he left the club to play for the short-lived Hunter Mariners in the 1997 Super League competition (ironically, the year his former club won the premiership). Godden played for Leeds in 1998-99.
