Biography
Flamboyant winger, an Easts junior, joined the Tigers in 1966. Cross had a season with Queanbeyan in 1968 after shifting to Canberra to work, but returned to Balmain the following year. After scoring a club record-equaling 4 tries in a match against Canterbury in 1969, he was also a try-scorer in the club's preliminary final win against Manly. Cross missed out on a place in the Tigers’ grand final win over Souths when coach Leo Nosworthy opted to use centre Allan Fitzgibbon and move George Ruebner to the wing. (Cross played in the Tigers’ reserve grade grand final loss to Manly). In 1971, he showed his talent as a creative finisher when he was the season's leading try-scorer with 18 tries. A member of the FootyTAB selection Board, he later coached the Junior Kangaroos to crushing victories over Great Britain’s U’19s in 1994. The father of Roosters’ star, Ryan Cross.

Your Say
Tim Rogan says: Cross, if memory serves, was a bit of an intercept specialist. I recall seeing him run 80-90 yards to score, I think in 1970, at the SCG. He is also the father of Ryan, a sometime Wallaby. (14/05/2011)
roy horrigan says: an intercept specialist is right, very pacy winger, once seen him intercept 10mtrs out from the tryline at the old kogarah oval ,run 90 mtrs to score, out pacing reg gasnier on the way.could easily have played rep football. (31/03/2012)
