Biography

Brisbane Norths forward came to Norths in 1979 but broke his shoulder and joined Easts the following year. McCabe built a reputation as a dangerous attacking forward with a penchant for 'big hits' but missed Easts' grand final loss to C’bury when he broke his jaw in a match. He represented both NSW and Queensland in 1981 when he took part in two ‘traditional’ interstate matches before playing in the sole State of Origin match held that year. McCabe then played for Australia in two Tests against France (he was the ‘man of the match’ in the First Test win after a two-try effort) before moving to Manly. A member of the Sea Eagles’ team that went down to P’matta in the 1982 grand final he toured with the unbeaten Kangaroos at year's end. McCabe played in the second row in the Third Test against Great Britain, two Tests in France and in 10 other tour matches. He made his final Test appearance against NZ in Auckland in 1983 and after Manly was beaten in a play-off for the semi-finals in 1985, saw out his career with Balmain.

Paul McCabe for a 4 year period 1980-83 was one of the most devastating forwards in the Sydney league at the time!
its a shame injuries blunted his form in later years.
Got to tour with the undefeated kangaroos of 82.
