Biography

West Wyalong prop made five Test appearances in the early 1960s, commencing with the 1961 tour of NZ. Crowe came to Souths in 1962 but despite playing for Sydney against Great Britain, the stay was short-lived. Returning to the bush as captain-coach of West Wyalong, Crowe played in two further Tests against France in 1964 before his final Test appearance in the First Test loss against Great Britain in 1966.

Ron Crowe joined Souths in early sixties for big money at time . He was a big ruddy faced country boy and because of his well publicised salary , his fellow forwards on much lesser monies certainly made him earn it . He was a tireless worker who took it up hard and with no passing game he took it up the middle again , again and again .
Ron was the spirit of Souths at the time . Vale Ron

Still talked about today July 2021, as one of the biggest men to play rugby league. Worked as a timber feller all his life. South’s flew him down the play on weekends. He trained on his own. He put family above all and even refused Kangaroo selection one year, due to his family commitments. Gone but never forgotten. A bush immortal.

I played for Yanco Wamoon against Dookie’s West Wyalong in the early 70’s. We were thrashed something like 58-nil. I played fullback that day. Obviously a lot of Wyalong players ran past me.
