Biography

Norths centre had a brief but historic impact on the international rugby league scene in 1950. Middleton came to Norths from Bermagui on the South Coast of NSW in 1948. Two years later, at age 21, he was selected in the third interstate match that propelled him into Australia's Test team. Middleton played in all three Tests against Great Britain and, in the Third and deciding Test, gave the final pass to winger Ron Roberts to score the try that gave Australia the Ashes for the first time in 30 years. His brief rep career ended after another appearance for NSW in 1951.

Keith Middleton was only 19 years old when he played in his first test match for Australia against England. I am just old enough to have read and heard about it at that time, as much was made about it in the general media. He probably also represented NSW prior to his 1st. test match. I remember listening to the vital 3rd test in that series in which he set Ron Roberts up with a pass that gave him a clear passage to score the winning try. There is not much about him on the web, its a pity, because he deserves more recognition.

Keith Midddleton was an absolute gentleman who unfortunately passed away in August 2020 at age 89.
