I marked Les a couple of times when he played five eight for Maitland in the Newcastle competition. He would rate as one of the most agile and elusive players I ever played against. He could step off both feet and he was very hard to pick. He was only small but compact and would possibly have made an impact in The Sydney comp but like most aboriginal fellows he preferred to play his football in the bush.. Others equally talented such as Merv Wright and Ron Munro ( both country reps ) were of a similiar ilk . They are players that people in Sydney have sadly never seen or heard of , because they simply were not attracted to Sydney life. From an old North Newcastle player
