Biography

Champion Rhodesian RU winger joined Wigan in 1962 and was the top try-scorer in English club football tries in 1964-65 with 40. Lake went on to score 123 tries in three seasons before coming to St George in the mid-1960s. Although the move was not a success, he was one of the prime movers behind the formation of the SARL and visited Australia in an official capacity when South Africa was included in the 1992 World Sevens competition.

Fine, long-rank goal kicker. In a game for Wigan, he once place-kicked a goal from 10m inside his own half (60m)!

It is unfortunate for Australian rugby League fans to have not seen more of this player as his time in Australia was fraught with a knee injury and operation that saw him play barely a handful of games over 2 or 3 seasons.

Trevor Lake did not kick goals. I think you are confusing him with Len Killeen, who played for St. Helens around the same time and was an excellent goalkicker.

Loved watching him when I was 8 or 9, at Wigan. Him and Billy Boston stood out for me.

Saw Trevor Lake, playing winger for St. George, score a try at Kogarah Oval in 1967. He took the ball on the burst and dived many metres from the tryline. It was a tryly great try from such a great winger. Piity his knee gave way but a true player and gentleman.
