John Andrew had a nickname "Straw" mainly because he was well over six foot three and was built like a match stick. My dad and I watched him come through the lower grades at Eastern Suburbs. His ability in attack and defense was unorthodox but unique considering his size and shape. Unfortunatley his career ended prematurly when he was got a broken neck when he was speared tackled when playing Newtown in the match of the day at the Sydney Cricket Ground Cricket ground. 1962 ?

Roy Horrigan..Straw Andrews, a very unpredictable player, could drop a simple ball but could turn defence into attack with an unorthodox play, I was out the old Sports Ground the day he broke his neck from a spear tackle. Could have blossomed into an excellent player given time and the right coaching, thinly built with a shock of blond hair, he was always entertaining..

Could of been a great player only injury robbed him of becoming a future rep player he had a giant stride very hard to tackle also a good bloke
